Meet Carrie Syczylo

Wife. Mother. Business owner. Community advocate.
Rooted in rural Indiana and committed to serving the people of House District 60.

ROOTS & FAMILY

I am Carrie Syczylo. I grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana and graduated in the class of 1994. In my senior year of high school, I met my husband, Michael. We met while “cruising” in Franklin, Indiana. We've been cruising together since.

After high school I attended U.S.I. and IUPUI. While taking courses, I worked at Independent Residential Living, advocating and caretaking for adults with physical and mental challenges in a group home facility. My experience advocating and caretaking ignited a layer of empathy that resonates within me today.

Michael and I married in 1996 and have two daughters, Mikayle and Carlie. We began our lives in Greenwood, Indiana but not long after our second daughter was born, we went looking for rural property to build our American dream. We landed ourselves in rural Morgan County where our children attended Monrovia and Connection Academy Public Schools.

Listening, Working, and Serving Others

My traditional values led me to be a stay-at-home mom while I created unique spaces to contribute to my family's income. I am a hairstylist by trade and enjoyed my career, mostly focusing on barbering. I was inspired not only to listen, but to truly hear my clients - their concerns, joys, challenges, and successes.

As I mentioned my upbringing in rural Shelbyville, Indiana, there was a sense of community shaped by public school teachers and local businesses that forever impacted my memory. With the desire to sow our roots, our lives began to take shape in Morgan County.

Lessons from the Field

Michael and I found ourselves owning Vizslas and competing in AKC and American Field (horseback) dog trials. I competed as both an amateur and professional dog handler for two decades and became a decorated handler winning several awards and championships.

My experience as a dog handler taught me the importance of building a solid foundation, hard work, dedication, and grace for a subjective opinion - principles that apply equally to people and communities today.

Our family spent years traveling throughout rural America, learning firsthand the importance of community spaces and local connection.

Building Community Through Small Business

Combining culture and country is who I am. With our shared love of coffee and food, my family created and owns a local coffee shop in Monrovia, Indiana, established in 2018 and recently expanded into Cloverdale - Indiana Farm House Brew Coffee Co.

The creation of Farm House Brew was built on transparency, accountability, affordability, and the desire to bring good things to rural people.

I am thankful for a creative life filled with diverse experiences while always focusing on serving the common good of rural living.

Personal Experiences That Shaped My Mission

Throughout my journey as a wife, mother, and business owner, my family has faced unexpected challenges.

Experiencing lymphoma as a new mom was not something we prepared for in life. Because of excellent medical care, family support, and personal resilience, I am thankful to be a survivor. A medical crisis should not bankrupt a family - especially a medically insured family.

Our experiences also inspired our daughters’ paths:

  • Our oldest daughter will begin practicing as an OB/Gyn in rural healthcare in June 2026.

  • Our youngest daughter works in nonprofit advocacy, supporting immigrant families seeking safety and opportunity.

Carrying Your Voice Forward

I will continue to be transparently who I am while listening to the ideas and concerns of my constituents. With my representation, I will carry your voices forward to hold elected officials accountable in our shared pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.

People are my focus and priority, regardless of political party affiliation past or present. I am a candidate who cares for all people and will maintain space for you because people deserve good things — and together, we can make that happen.

Together, We Can Bring Accountability Back to Government
